Planning 101
What is the Planning 101 course
Planning 101 is a free online course on land use planning. The course will cover what planning is, why we plan, how planning works and how plans are applied. This course will be released as short interactive lessons throughout 2023. Planning in the Town of Stratford is a core focus of this work, but the information can be broadly applied to other communities in PEI and beyond.
Who is the Planning 101 course for?
If you have an interest in how your community is planned, this course is for you! Whether you are a long-time resident of Stratford, a newcomer, a renter, a local business owner, an elected official, or someone living outside of Stratford, there is something for everyone in this course.
Why should I take the course
You should consider taking this course if you want to learn more about how planning shapes your community and your role in the planning process. Land use planning has a significant impact on how a community looks and feels by determining what land uses go where and why. Many people influence planning, but often the planning process and what it means to do planning well is often not well understood. This training will give you the knowledge to navigate and participate in the planning process. This foundational training is helpful for anyone looking to become more involved in municipal planning including but not limited to conversations around housing affordability and availability.
How long is the Planning 101 course?
Each topic within the Planning 101 course takes between 5-10 minutes to complete. You can complete as many as you like in any order based on your interest.
