The Shape of the Future
Explore the future of Stratford
What might Stratford look like in 5 years? 10 years? 25 years? What does density and growth really look like? Is density really going to change the Town?
This is your chance to peek ahead to one possible future.
This Stratford modelling tool will give you the opportunity to see the future. The model starts from Stratford of today. It then uses population projections to build new residential and commercial units to accommodate this population growth.
You also have the opportunity experiment and help shape some of that growth.
What is important to me?
You will start by answering a few questions about what type of growth you think should happen in Stratford. For each question, you can select from a number of options, and the model will direct growth based on your choices. Many of the options you will see are based on the recent Growth Management report produced for the Town of Stratford.
What happens after I make my choices?
The model will start by forecasting the population growth of Stratford. The growth is based on the scenarios identified in the recent growth management report produced for the Town.
It is very important to realize that the model cannot identify exactly what is going to happen with each parcel of land in Stratford. As new residential buildings are needed, the model will randomly select parcels of land in the Town where it is possible to build. It will create a new building based on the zoning for the town, and the options you have chosen.
What will I see in the model?
Once the model has run, you will see a 3-D rendering of the town, including potential new buildings. You will be able to zoom in and out, and see what the Town could look like from different perspectives.
You will see the Crossroads development as part of the map, as this large scale development has already started. These are the buildings in light purple.
You will also see the properties where new buildings could be constructed – they will be in dark red (for residential units) or dark blue (for new commercial development). You can hover over each lot to see what the model has built on that property.
It is very important to note that this does not show what is expected, but is a possible future for Stratford. New buildings are placed randomly around the Town as permitted by zoning regulations.
